Gloucester City Skittles

GLOUCESTER CITY SKITTLES LEAGUE

ANNUAL REPORT 2010

My congratulations go to the winners and runners up in all divisions for the last season and also to the finalist and semi-finalist in the Hurran Cup and Front Pin Cup Competitions.

During the season we had 53 score of 90 and over , so my congratulations go the winner of the Hubert Browning Trophy for the highest individual score of the season, the winner is Dave Ewers of Palmers Loafers with a score of 102.

Congratulations go to the winner of the Howard Davies Trophy for the highest away average for division’s premier and division 1 and that is Billy Lawrence of Redman’s with an average of 75.9 after 12 away matches and the winner of the Jeff Turner Trophy is Cliff Mellier of Britwater with an average of 73.1 after 15 away matches

We had 208 teams at the beginning of the season and since then including teams that have not registered for the forthcoming season we have lost 15 teams so we start the season with 198 teams including 4 new teams Watts Fireballs, St James All Stars and Farmers Shedheads and the Tipplers because of the lack of membership this means that the majority of divisions only have 15 teams. At the end of the season we had to say goodbye to the Civil Service club as the government decided to sell the land, also The Hospital Club closes its doors.

Fines for the year amounted to £659 and again I appeal to all secretaries to get their cards in on time and to check that they are filled in correctly. There were 89 cards received late and 40 cancelled matches, there were also 18 occurrences where teams had not paid their fines within the due 14 days, I must point out that teams that ‘postpone’ matches can only do so as a result of the reasons mentioned in rule 5 and is out of the teams control and for any other reason it is a cancelled match, therefore forfeit and a fine imposed. In all cases the divisional secretary must be informed. I must mention again that putting a 2nd class stamp on a card that is posted on a Friday or a Saturday will not arrive in time and will result in a fine, either use a 1st class stamp or scan and email the scanned card to me.

The Hurran Cup competition proved to be a difficult run this year because of the extra matches that had to played this being due to the inexperience of the competition secretary who withdrew after the 2nd round, but we finally brought into line and had the semi-finals and finals played on time with the winner being Moody Blues with a score of 92 by Steve Price and the runner up was Friday Knights.

In the Front Pin Competition that was held with no problems except that I must point out that the front pin league matches must take priority over local club/pub summer competitions, if it is not possible to play on the alley the home team must provide an alley even a neutral one, we had front pin score of 92 by Billy Lawrence of Redman’s in the semi-final and the winner of the section a is Redman’s with the runner up being Palmers Loafers the section b winner is Windmill Nomads and the runner up is Walls Splits. I must make an apology to Windmill Nomads because the Citizen had published the name of Glevum Nomads under their picture.

Date of the Presentation night is Friday the 12th August 2011 at Walls Club and the dates for the collection of fixture books and cards for next season are 23rd and 24th August 2011 at Walls Club lounge between 7.30 & 9.00pm. Please bring your team registration form with you, if you can’t make it then arrange for someone else to collect them

Finally I would like to thank all the committee members for their help during a somewhat troublesome end to the season.
